Guitar tracks not in sync...

Hi;
I am using Cakewalk 2002, first time using recording software and my question is this. When I record a second guitar track, on the playback it seems that the two tracks are out of sync. At times it sounds on and then track 2 seems to lag almost as if my sound card is having trouble processing all the info. Might that be the problem. I use a soundblaster card, a few years old.
